The annual Docent Training program is being provided in
conjunction with a new offering, "Angel Island In Depth" for those interested in
learning more about Angel Island but not necessarily planning to become docents.
Docents give public and private tours to individuals and groups and normally are
knowledgeable about all areas of the park. Cost for the program is $30 for all
participants, regardless of the number of days attending. The fee is payable to
Angel Island State Park in check or cash.
The sessions will begin on Saturday, February 23. The
first 3 Saturdays focus on the major historical sites on the Island, Camp
Reynolds, Immigration Station, and Fort McDowell (not necessarily in that
order) and are part of both programs. Docent-specific training will continue
with 2 additional Saturday topics, Interpretation and Shadow Day (observe
experienced docents and begin giving tours with their supervision). There
will also be an optional overnight on March 15 for docent candidates along
with an optional nature hike on March 16. There is no class on March
22.
Training will consist of visits to the historical sites and
presentations about them as well as an introduction to
the natural beauty of this unique state park.
